Constantly having to give in to your compulsion makes you feel out of control
how i can help
Therapy for obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behavior is highly effective.
You and your brain are capable of changing your thoughts and behavior. Your brain can learn to do and think something different, instead of giving in to your anxious thoughts and compulsions. OCD is a brain glitch that can be changed.
A commonly used intervention for OCD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention, (ERP). These methods combined can help you break free from the trap of OCD. Together we will create an action plan, specifically for you and your needs. This plan is completely based on what you as the client are comfortable with. With this structured approach and a lot of intention, you can regain control of your life.
What’s ERP, anyway? ERP is an evidence based approach and proven to be effective for 60%-80% of clients. It is viewed as the gold standard for treating and reducing symptoms of OCD. It involves exposure at your determined pace to the source of your anxiety while helping you resist the urge to perform compulsive behavior. The only way our brains can change is if we practice doing something different. This can seem scary but you can do hard things! We will work together to change your relationship with the things that make you uncomfortable, improving your daily functioning and enhancing your qualify of life.
imagine if you…
Understood why you have this behavior
Understanding your brain and how it works will help you connect the dots and understand why you feel this way, and then learn how to change it. There’s nothing wrong with you. Remember OCD is a brain glitch, and this glitch can be fixed.
Could stop giving in to your compulsions
You can learn why you respond the way you do and how to change and increase your control over your response. You don’t have to let your thoughts control your behavior. You can get out of the never ending loop. Rituals can provide us comfort, but they can also have a huge impact on our daily functioning. Learn a different way to respond and break free from the cycle.
Felt in control of your behavior instead of controlled by your behavior
Maybe your thoughts and behavior keep you from being able to do things you love. You can gain control and stop letting your thoughts and behavior tell you what you’re going to do or allowed to do. You can learn how to break free from the urge to give in to what your brain tells you to do. Start living as the boss of your life!

Common questions about therapy for obsessive and compulsive thoughts and behaviors
-
I incorporate components of cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure practices to help your brain understand that your thoughts and behaviors aren’t dangerous, they’re just uncomfortable. Together we will identify your triggers and implement a plan to change your brain’s response. I will never put you in a position to do anything you are not willing to do, but I will challenge you to challenge yourself. It will take dedication and commitment. If you feel ready for this challenge, then you’re in the right place!
-
Exposure practices to treat OCD are extremely effective, however, it’s important to know it’s not for everyone. A lot of people will get better, but some won’t, or just aren’t ready yet. Gaining control of OCD is hard but absolutely possible. With intention and consistency, you can improve your symptoms. If after the consult I don’t think you are a good fit for this approach, I will be open and honest about that.
